I eventually bought a subwoofer so I could turn down the volume on the subsonics easily so as not to disturb my neighbors down stairs. This is way more amp than I need for my apartment. This is a receiver that will take awhile to learn all the settings, but is well worth taking the time to get to know. If you're looking for a simple plug and play reciever, I'd look elsewhere, but if you're willing to spend some time getting to know your receiver, I'd definitely check this one out. I do miss just the simple bass and treble knobs, but the dynamic equalizer and volume does a pretty good job of enhancing bass when the volume is turned down, and the electronic bass and treble controls are pretty easy to get too. JJM I upgraded from an old Sony ES receiver that I was always really impressed with. I just wanted to get into the HDMI switching and move up to a 7.1 system. It was time to upgrade. I shopped the Denon, Onkyo and Yamaha models for some time and finaly selected the Denon. I am sure that all three would have been fine choices - I selected the Denon for their quality, I had a hard time finding anything negative to say about the unit other then small things like poor remore or hard to read manuals, but I did find quite a bit of people complaining about Onkyo having some issues.
